From Bootcamp to Business: Lorna’s Journey with Fitasylum
Lorna’s passion for fitness always burned bright, even when she was working in beauty therapy. Running her own bootcamp, she was already making a difference in people’s lives—but she knew there was so much more she could offer. In 2023, Lorna took the plunge and joined Fitasylum, beginning her journey with our Level 3 Sports Massage Course.
During one of her one-to-one sessions with Nathan, a seasoned tutor known for his deep knowledge and patient approach, Lorna opened up about her experience running group exercise classes. Nathan’s advice was a turning point: if she was passionate about helping people get fit and healthy, getting qualified as a personal trainer would open up even more opportunities. Inspired by his encouragement, Lorna decided to further her education by enrolling in our Level 3 Gym Instructing & Personal Training course.
“Dec gave us good lessons on what to expect, what to prepare for, and was on hand for any challenges I faced. I felt very well prepared”
Her tutor for her PT course was Dec, a highly experienced PT and gym owner. Known for challenging his students so they get the most out of themselves, so they feel ready to take on the industry.
Fast forward to graduating as a Personal Trainer in August 2024, Lorna didn’t wait a minute before diving into the industry. She was building connections as a student at Fitasylum so that when she finished her course, she could hit the ground running. Six months into her career, she owns her own gym unit in Stockport called Sweat Squad!
Lorna admits that every day brings new lessons, reinforcing her belief that real-world experience complements classroom learning perfectly. We asked her to share a stand-out moment in her career so far.
“A one-to-one callisthenics lesson with a married couple, one of them is a physiotherapist. I felt nervous, especially because I had to use a lot of anatomy terminology and was worried in case I got something wrong, but I used what I learned and what I already know from doing callisthenics, and they loved the session and are now clients of mine.”
Looking ahead, Lorna’s ambitions continue to grow. She plans to host callisthenics workshops overseas, expanding her own unit and becoming a well-respected name in the fitness community. With plans to launch workshops for women over 45 and beginner callisthenics sessions already in the pipeline, her journey is far from over.
At Fitasylum, we’re proud to have played a part in Lorna’s success. Her journey is a testament to our commitment to practical, career-focused training that not only equips you with essential fitness skills but also prepares you for the business side of the industry. If you’re ready to turn your passion into a thriving career, Lorna’s story might be the inspiration you need.
